What
is a New Construction Window?
A new construction window has a flange running
around the perimeter of the window frame which is nailed or
screwed to the house framing.
Then
the house siding, bricks, stucco or other permanent covering is
placed over the flange so it's concealed.
Replacement windows are designed to fit inside
your existing nailed-in window frame once your original windows
are removed from their frames.
This
makes for a very neat, simple and clean installation. They are
screwed in on the inside of the frame and the outside is sealed
with caulk to prevent moisture and air leakage.
New construction windows are made to a set of
‘standard’ sizes which will rarely fit a replacement opening
properly but are designed for the most common sizes used in new
home construction.
